Kerry Washington was born January 31, 1977 in the borough of
Bronx in New York City, New York. Kerry is an only child and the
daughter of a successful real estate broker father and a professor /
educational consultant mother. Growing up, Kerry performed in the
children musical theater with the TADA! Youth Theater teen group. She
attended the Spence School of Manhattan before enrolling in George
Washington University’s theater program in which she earned a degree.
Kerry also studied at Michael Howard Studios in New York City.
It wasn’t long after her 1998 graduation that Kerry made her feature
debut in the 2000 drama “Our Song”, with nominations for the film at
the Independent Spirit Awards and the Sundance Film Festival. Several
supporting film roles followed in such films as “Save the Last Dance”,
“Bad Company”, “The Human Stain”, “She Hate Me”, “Fantastic Four” and
the one supporting role that would garner her a house-hold name; playing
Ray Charles’ wife Della Bea Robinson in the bio-pic “Ray”. Soon after,
Kerry not only received critical appraise – she received many new roles –
this time as a star. Kerry still tries to remain true to her stage
roots by remaining active in theater and has also begun to branch out by
attempting to make a name for herself as a writer and producer.
Kerry lives with her two dogs Josephine and Shorkie.
